SMART FREEDOMS

NT • Rationals

You are if you identify as SMART but prefer to live in a spontaneous way, trying to understand and experience life rather than control and structure it. Detailed plans are a little too constrictive. You prefer to take life as it comes and see what the day holds. The downside when dealing with the confining structure nature of Home & Life issues? Um. well. everything. What’s easy is adapting to crisis and sudden change (like broken water heaters or gas leaks); what’s hard is everything else.

What’s Easy

  • You are very good at the big picture and value quality and function, which translates into an inviting, yet sometimes a more austere design sense than your ORGANIC counterparts. Your furniture, artwork, tchotchkes, and books are often trophies or testament to your accomplishments.
  • You can and do adapt to many different situations including the added responsibilities of relationships, children, and work.
  • You see with a bird’s eye view what’s important in the end. Happy family? Important. Clean house? Not so much. (But you do take umbrage at dirty dishes, it’s just bad judgment to have food laying around for pests and bacteria.)
  • You can embrace your spontaneous side and allow the perfect spring day to not be wasted indoors doing chores, working at the office or stuck at school.
  • You do get things done, just not in the same linear, crossed off list way of other types. You do things when you are moved to do them.

What’s Hard

  • The details of home and life organization are hard for you. While your ORGANIC FREEDOM (NFP) counterparts often shrug, it’s not good sense to leave dishes in the sink, or to have the children screaming at each other, so you spend more time chasing down these problems.
  • Attending to all the details of home and life in a timely linear fashion. You prefer keeping things in your head and only resort to lists in times of stress or added responsibilities. You do better when you can attack a big chore all at once when you are moved to do it.
  • Filing in file cabinets and any organizational structure that is enclosed and not visual. Having your things organized and out in the open actually makes it easier for you to accomplish things. Especially since you have trouble putting things back.
  • You can learn how to adapt to the structured world we live in, using wall calendars, alarm functions on phones and electronic schedulers. As long as you remember to LOOK at the scheduler and not be too hard on yourself if you forget something once a month or, gasp, once a week.
  • Your concept of time. You probably have pushed your preferences to be on time for work, but it’s harder when you’re off the clock. Use all the tricks in the above bullet to be fashionably, not rudely late. And always give yourself twice the amount of time you think you need.
  • Not breaking the finer things like china & crystal. You tend to break things more than CLASSIC and FUN types. Buy and treat housewares accordingly!
