There are people in this world who do everything big and especially with food at parties — too big and then have tons of leftover food that’s wasted — in my family, they’re the Sabos. Then there are people who cut it too close and don’t have enough good food at a party leaving everyone starving. But now, there’s a way to find a happy medium behind too much and too little and it’s courtesy of a really brilliant idea on Real Simple. It’s called the party food and beverage calculator and I wish I’d invented this idea and made it into an App and charged people for it. I would’ve at least made money in a few months before someone copied me and gave it away for free.

In the Sabo wing of my family, they don’t know how to do things small. The Sabos are an Organic Freedom and a Smart Freedom couple so implied details are not their strong suit. The Sabos ask what they can bring to a party and you politely say oh just bring some pop or something — implied meaning: don’t worry about it — and they bring a case of pop. Sabo Size it!!

And then there’s my mom — Organic Structure (NFJ) — who hates having wasted food and cuts it too close sometimes — like my engagement party where we had to order pizza for our guests afterward because her definition of heavy hors d’oeuvres didn’t match 30-something men’s definition of heavy. Honestly, if she was in charge of the bar, I’d have bet we would’ve run out of booze but my dad — an Irish Smart Structure — always makes sure there’s plenty of booze leftover.

I feel like Funs (SP) might just have this calculator built into their head or not care enough about leftovers. As a Classic (SJ), I just want things to be perfect so I don’t want too much OR too little. I want to be THAT perfect of a host. Kind of like Goldilocks. Hence why I think this party food & beverage calculator is such a brilliant idea!
