Around the World in a Spa: Cleveland & Austin

Yeah, that’s right, I said, Cleveland and Austin — are there any other cities between NYC and LA? And if you were thinking, “Isn’t Chicago a more important media market?” you’d be sorely mistaken because according to Google analytics, Clevelanders are our 3rd biggest followers — after glorious NYC and awesome San Fran that is. If only Google could measure whether the Cleveland page views are all our mom’s.

First Cleveland. Yeah baby, FIRST. This is from my friend who moved to NYC and back to Cleveland again: Ladies and Gentlemen Salon and Spa at Legacy Village is her top pick. “It’s an Aveda salon with no tipping, so you don’t have to stress out about tips and the atmosphere and products are yummy.” Ah no tipping. Why can’t this place exist in NYC??

Our second Cleveland pick is from one of our other favorite Cleveland gals. “Walden Spa in Aurora is like no other. You begin your experience with a 30 minute private room where you can either go into the spa shower or endless spa tub, which I highly recommend. It is pure bliss sitting by yourself in a luxurious room where you can listen to music in the tub or read a book.” Um can you tell she has three kids under the age of 5?? “The one hour massage in your private room is serene and intense all in one.  You will leave feeling like a new woman. There really is no spa like it.” One glance at their website and you’ll want to book your ticket to Cleveland — seriously — but as a seasoned Clevelander, I suggest post-March.

On to Austin. While I usually keep our Pixie Peep tips anonymous, this one isn’t. It’s from our friend, Carolyn Cohagan, filmmaker, comedienne, and author of an amazing book for Tweens called The Lost Children — I read it cover to cover and couldn’t put it down. And as Katie can attest, it usually takes me months to read a 300 page book.

She suggests “Lake Austin Spa Resort – it’s unbelievable. And my sister-in-law says it’s been named by Conde Nast as the best destination spa in the US.” If only I’d written Carolyn before my cousin, Becky, got married in Austin!

[Sidenote: Semaine is French for week. We had to use a different word for week because someone has trademarked its use with the word spa in front of it.]
