Cheap Product Versus Expensive Product
I got this week’s tips from our favorite hair stylist, Amy Gerber. She gave a talk to the NY Network, a women’s networking group, earlier this summer and I saved these nuggets because regardless of personality type, everyone’s questions seemed to be “How can I make my hair not look like crappola?”
Today we’ll focus on product. Amy’s advice wasn’t to go out and buy super expensive shampoos or other stuff. She simply said to pay attention to what is IN the product. Often, one of cheap product’s main ingredients is alcohol — i.e., one of the first ingredients listed —and this is bad for your hair. It dries it out. But, sometimes even expensive products have alcohol as a main ingredient and this is when you’re literally throwing away money. But, frankly, you’re also wasting money if you’re buying cheap product that damages your hair.
So, frugal Classics and Funs, use your attention to detail strength to evaluate the hair products you’re currently using — or considering using — in terms of ingredients and price. This isn’t to say Organics and Smarts can’t also do this exercise, it just might become tedious over time to evaluate every hair product this way since details have never been your #1 passion in life.
Another ingredient that cheap products use a lot is bee’s wax. This isn’t inherently bad for your hair like alcohol is but it does create wax build-up so you have to be very thorough when you wash your hair. No quickie jobs, which for Funs, Organic Freedoms and Smart Freedoms means being careful about giving yourself enough time in the shower.
