Christmas Is Coming — Perfect Time to Organize
Certain personality types need proper motivation to clean and get organized. It’s how this Organic Freedom got my house in order before Thanksgiving — okay one floor of my house — the fear of judgment from my parents — okay my mother, an Organic Structure. She sees a mess and it bugs her. She might not tidy perfectly, but she’ll do something. Same with Classics. Funs too to some extent, unless it doesn’t bug them, and if this is the case then keep reading.
Organic Freedoms and Smart Freedoms need a motivator, because when we tidy or clean we do it perfectly, which means it’s an exhausting task that we will put off unless we’re prompted into action by some outside force. My mother’s judgement? Sometimes it’s all that get’s my four year old’s hair brushed. But there are other things that can motivate us. Fun things.
Christmas! Nothing like dragging all my decorations from the basement — Mr. Christmas miniature bobsled run, carousels, train, etc. — will make me want to clean up the newest creative display of toys and tchotchkes my 4 year old has assembled in the living room. And yes within a few hours of finishing my Christmas extravaganza, all the little pieces in my Mr. Christmas stuff will be arranged in an elaborate display with all the Hallmark battery operated snowmen singing different songs at the same time. It doesn’t matter. I’ll still feel profoundly accomplished and happy because Christmas is coming and I got my living room in order. For the next few weeks until d-day I’ll take the five minutes to tidy up the creative displays at the end of the day so my beautiful tree can twinkle in relative neatness.
So what’s your motivator? That’s the key. Throwing parties, having grown ups over, getting ready for holidays, and gasp having dinner for your 14 year old’s new boyfriend — these are my motivators, not all of them fun or joy inspiring but effective nonetheless. Deadlines have their place, but anticipation and getting ready for a joyful and fun event is sometimes the best part of life. And no my living room is still a mess and that photo is from last Christmas Eve! I mean, jeez, I just cleaned up for Thanksgiving a week ago.
