Classic Fashion from Zappos

Okay I think we’ve already written how much we LOVE Zappos — 365 day returns, the best customer service ever and more than just shoes. For a while now they’ve also had lots of great clothes, jewelry, and accessories, but recently we noticed that they had added a personality type based sorter to help you search for outfits you might like.

We decided to do our best to make sure the types divvied up and made sense with our PixiePersonality Types. Sadly we fear that either Zappos doesn’t have a good enough crop of clothes to accurately reflect 10 different personality types, or they’re getting confused between fashion trends and personality type. We think it’s a little of both, but even still some of Zappos’ personalities come close because personality type is by definition, archetypal. In any event, we could see their reasoning and this week will help you navigate their fashion personalities with your pixie personality in mind.

Now Classic usually goes with Classic and Zappos is smart to identify this type correctly: “Graceful, Elegant, Tailored, Sohpisticated, Stylish.” Unfortunately most of these outfits tend to be dress-up or business Classic as you can see on the left. Plus it’s not exactly what I’d call quintessential Classic clothes. Classics DO tend to be overdressed rather than underdressed. They like to stick with, ahem, classic styles and so truly they might find some of these outfits a bit too “expressive.”

Now I started to fear that they really didn’t get the whole personality thing at all, but then I saw their Casual Chic personality type. The name doesn’t capture who a Classic is personality type wise, but the clothes certainly do. Casual Chic SCREAMS preppy, and therefore by definition is perfectly oriented towards Pixie Classics. Now the description of Casual Chick is “Cool, Chic, Stylishly Simple, Classy, Laid Back” and while I  don’t think “Laid Back” is the best descriptive word for a Classic, the preppy trend can definitely conjure some chicness, especially when it has a Jackie O vibe.
