Don’t Let Your Home Be a Doormat, Get One!
Seriously, this is a universal organizational tip that we wish could go without saying. Frankly even our parents don’t have one at their front door, so maybe this is why we have such a bugaboo about it.
There needs to be a rug in the entranceway.
Some of you think it’ll only get dirty and then you’ll have to clean it, but that’s the point. The rug is supposed to soak dirt up front so it’s not tracked everywhere in the home.
If it’s an informal entranceway, get something practical and inexpensive such as a sisal rug or an indoor/outdoor rug. Get two so you can switch them while one is being dry-cleaned. Believe it or not, there are a myriad of personality types who would never clean the entranceway rug unless some drunken guest spilled red wine on it. Even then, there are a few personality types who would take three or more months to attend to that accident in a meaningful way. If it is a formal entranceway, get a nice rug but also have a doormat where you can really brush off the dirt, grime and water from your shoes.
