Well, here’s the mother of all women’s magazines, and the most read. It might be more traditional, and harder for us feminist homemakers to get behind, but ladies, it’s got GREAT ideas, and much easier centerpiece ideas, which of course is what this Organic Freedom aesthetic obsessed girl is looking for! The mix-and match menu confused me because, um, I imagine that I can make the biggest meal that ever was, and I will attempt it. But, there’s a pecan pie recipe in here that I am definitely taking out for a spin.

I would peg Good Housekeeping as a Classic magazine, and I bet I’m right. I think it would be too staid for a Fun, who needs much more adventurous fare, and for types like me too, Organic Freedoms — Good Housekeeping? O.M.G. I am NOT a homemaker! Although, frankly, whether I like it or not, homemaking is my night job, and I do enjoy making my house look nice. Cleaning it and keeping it full of food are another issue.

Besides that pecan pie recipe, and the ridiculously easy centerpieces, there’s this awesome article about how salt might not be bad for you. Hell yeah! Sorry, but living in New York City, I am so sick of the food police telling me what is bad for me and good for me, only to find out that 20 years later the substitutes the food companies put in for salt are killing me. (Same thing happened with butter vs. margarine.) So while I am forced to know exactly how many calories my donuts are, at least I can salt my steak in peace for now.

Oh and of course a fun article on Kelly Ripa. Always enjoyable. One of the things that I appreciate about Good Housekeeping is the “Good Enough” solutions they have for household dilemmas. It’s a great thing for Funs, Organic Freedoms and Smart Freedoms who overdo everything into perfection, and it’s also great for all the other types who like to get things done quickly and check things off their list. But it’s also a great indicator that many of us do not have the time we might have had in previous generations to keep house, and that it’s okay to cut corners when need be. Life should be easy after all!
