how to tie a scarf

My Classic sister gave my Organic Structure mom a beautiful scarf in New York for her birthday last fall and showed her all the current ways to style it, but Mom ended up wearing the simple infinity scarf I picked up for fifteen bucks at Marshall’s most often. My go-to was a 5 dollar Old Navy scarf that I tied at the end and wore like an Infinity. But now we can branch out and try new things and just pop into PixiesDidIt for easy links when we or you want to try a new style.

The best video is from a web star channel called Wendy’s Lookbook. The video features of 25 little Wendys tying different scarf styles. I bet all you detail perfect Funs and Classics had no problem seeing that video and going out with a new scarf style two minutes later. But I know the rest of us big picture Smart and Organic types had a bit of trouble following along.  But Wendy also had two follow up videos, here and here that not only slowed down the but then she patiently described what scarfs work best for which styles, where to buy them cheap or expensive, and then how to do it step by step. She also somehow did the video so you can click on the design you want and skip to that part of the video. Genius!

Now for those of you who are not auditory learners, I also looked low and high for the best illustrated tutorials. Not easy and not very fruitful. The best one was done by Coldwater Creek that you can see on the left and is now impossible to find on their website as they were recently bought. Oh but thank Goodness for the Internet. Whoever drew this is a genius and I would love to know who it is as they deserve major credit and props! If you observe the drawings closely you can see what kind of scarfs will work best for each tie. Frankly, the accompanying photographs kind of show you what happens if your scarf is too small. It doesn’t look as good.

I also found a Pinterest page page that has all kind of illustrations and photos in one easy to glance page and you can also just go there to pick what you want and follow along.

  • Hey you two, thank you for this one, which was truly relevant for me. I wear scarfs almost every day for many reasons, including avoiding sunburn, covering wrinkles, keeping warm. I know how to tie in lots of different ways, but some of these are new.
Will be in NYC in June–hope I can catch you.
    xoxo
