Money Saving Apps
Finding a great deal today has gone far beyond clipping coupons and checking your inbox for the day’s great deal. Now, all you have to do is take a quick look at your cell. Soon, geez, maybe even now, you’ll be alerted to deals while you’re walking around in a store!
Whether you’re looking for a discounted gym membership, a five course meal, or a great new pair of shoes, these deals are literally at your fingertips anytime you hold your mobile phone. Best of all, these apps are free. Perfect for Funs, Classics and cost-conscious Organics.
Groupon is an app you can use to find great deals in your local city and a new one is offered everyday. Groupon has almost everything and anything and coupons for dining out are almost always 50 percent off. For those of us who value our vanity, they always have deals to enhance your beauty, hair cuts, high lights, even Botox (at reputable doctors offices of course)! Here’s the Groupon benefits in their own words:
- Get any deal with the touch of a button
- Search nearby Groupons using GPS
- Keep track of all your Groupons by location, date and expiration
- Save trees with paperless redemption
While Groupon is good for everyday stuff, for those fashionistas among us, Rue La La is where to get amazing deals on designer clothing. They have had everything from Marc Jacobs to Vera Wang to Judith Ripka — and it’s always a steal. From time to time this app will also run sales on luxurious vacations with prices as low as $1,200 to spend a week in a villa in Mexico to Fall getaways in Nantucket. The app also helps you shop their private sales from anywhere, preview upcoming Boutiques, and set reminders so you never miss an event.
Gilt is an app that brings Groupon and Rue La La together because it has two apps, one simply called Gilt and the other Gilt City. Gilt has several categories such as Men, Women, Home, Children, and Jetsetter and each have countless offers. Like Rue La La, Gilt has deals on your favorite designer items, but the Jetsetter category offers new vacations almost everyday — something all of us need right about now! Gilt City is a lot like Groupon, but instead of a one deal per day, Gilt City has around 15 deals at a time that last around a week. Both of these apps offer you similar features to Rue La La’s.
All of these apps are available on iPhone, iPads and Android, and Blackberry, except Gilt which so far (tell us if we’re wrong) doesn’t work on Blackberry. Also, while you sometimes have to solicit an “invitation” from Gilt and Rue La La when you visit their websites, that doesn’t seem to be true with the apps. Just sign up.
