Monogrammed Towels

If you do Monday’s tip — get a custom monogram from Carolyn Brackenridge at Monogram Inc. — then you might have no need for today’s PixieTip(s). But, if you don’t get a custom one then we have a couple of spots to get monogrammed towels. We cover the high-end to the low-end. As this is the last PixieTip in monogram week, I thought I’d chime in with my theory that only Classics and Smarts go out of their way to monogram stuff. Organics and Funs own monogrammed stuff but 9 times out of 10 it was a gift. Classics and Smarts get these as gifts too but they’re likely to continue to purchase monogrammed things once they have them. Feel free to chime in if you disagree. Say if you’re a Fun or an Organic obsessed with monogramming.

JCPenney’s American Living Hamilton SetBack to towels. Lands End and JCPenney are the two spots to get decent, monogrammed towels in short order without spending a gazillion dollars. Lands End towels are okay.  I’m more a fan of JCPenney towels. They did away with their Grand Patrician line — my old standby for towels, why must companies discontinue great product lines?! — but the American Living Hamilton set looks like it’s comparable to my beloved Grand Patricians. They’re on sale right now for $40 for a 6-piece towel set, usually $96.  Monogramming is free, I believe. Lands End’s cheapest 6-piece set, Supima, is on sale for $47.50. I actually have these ones was disappointed in the towel thickness isn’t that great. Plus, $5 for monogramming. But, they’re regular price $59 is cheaper than JC Penneys regular price. Bottom line, if you’re a bargain hunter and have time to wait for a sale, JCPenney is the winner for quality and price combo a.k.a. value.

Now, let’s say you’re a Smart or another personality with discriminating taste. Then look no further than Neiman Marcus, or as many a Fun, Classic, or Organic Structure might call it “Needless Markup.” They have some super luxurious towels or at least pricey ones. A 6-piece Marcus Collection set will run you north of $150 and monogramming is about $1.50 a piece. Naturally, I’ve never tried them as I’m a penny pinching Classic — although my husband would likely beg to differ. If he only knew how bad I really could be!
