What is a nifty kit you ask? Apparently “kit” is another word for a dad-centered gift basket. And I do admit is has a better and more clever sound to it. Martha has two such baskets for a hand-made Father’s Day: a Car-Wash Kit and a Car-Travel Kit. And while they both sound like a smart idea for dad — because of course all men love cars — well even if they do, not all types will like these gifts.

Why? Because there’s a whole type of men out there who do NOT see the point of washing their own car when there are perfectly good car washes and people happy to do it for them. But these types — Smarts (NTs) all — would appreciate the Car Travel Kit when they’ve run out of gas in the middle of the night. Frankly your Organic (NF) dads would benefit from this gift too. Why?

Organics (NF) and Smarts (NT) are the types who would go out on the open road without the essentials. Yes they might have a book on tape, fancy driving gloves and perhaps even a driving scarf, but they don’t have: “a map, a pencil, and a notebook for jotting down directions, all neatly rubber-banded together.” Wait. What century are we living in? If your dad has a smart phone then he likely doesn’t need any of those things. But he might need a snack, some water, a flashlight and most definitely jumper cables. Perhaps even a gas container for when he inevitably runs out.

Now the car wash idea is more of a gift that your practical Classics (SJs) and Funs (SPs) can get behind. They more likely than not can and do enjoy the process of cleaning their cars. Maybe only on occasion, but still they can appreciate the hard work, the saving of money, and the satisfaction of a job well done. Especially if they have a fancy prize car.
