Rainbows & Starch
So new and fancy lunchboxes are one thing; getting them to actually eat it? Well, that is the perennial question. For those of you who have patiently placed a variety of foods in front of your children time after time even if they don’t eat it, until eventually they have the palate of a gourmet foodie — well then bully for you! For the rest of us, we have some easy and hard ways to present the same old same old in a fun new way.
What types have the patience to make sure their kids don’t turn into picky white food only type eaters? Not Types like Katie, Organic Freedoms (NFPs) and Smart Freedoms (NTPs) who will definitely have a harder time of it. Ditto for the Organic Structures (NFJs) and Smart Structures (NTJs) who would rather just get on with it. Funs (SPs) are probably the most patient type, especially if it involves the practical idea of getting their kids to eat what they eat — so if they’ve been raised as a gourmet foodie then a gourmet foodie they will have. Classics (SJs) can definitely side with the Funs on this one, but if it becomes too much of a hassle they might give into the occasional easy mac and cheese, and especially if that’s how they were raised.
What personality type really loves (or has the patience for) turning their children’s lunch into edible pieces of art? Certainly not practical get-it-checked-off-the-list Classics (SJs), Organic Structures (NFJs) and Smart Structures (NTJs)! We’re pretty sure that only Funs (SPs) who were raised by this kind of mom or dad and those artistic Organic Freedoms (NFPs) and Smart Freedoms (NTPs) are going to be doing this. How to do it? All that is needed is some food coloring, milk, paint brushes, and your canvas which, um, yeah looks much better with white than brown, so gourmet foodies beware.
Now for you more practical types — Classics and Funs — who don’t mind a bit of white pasta now and then, making lunch bright and cheery is still very possible and easy to do once the ducklings are in bed. Take a couple of different pots, some pasta and your brightest food coloring, boil and voila! You’re well on your way to really impress at lunch time. And much easier. Plus you Classics will enjoy getting it done the night before. For some flavor add some butter and parmesan cheese and it will be good to go at lunch.
