Recycle and Donate — Electronics

Oh electronics. These things become obsolete so quickly there’s even a commercial about it. Obviously not that good of a commercial or I would remember who it was for. But the point is that these days a lot of stores will take your old gadget when you trade up for a new one. A lot like a car.

So. Seriously. Get rid of them. No. You won’t need it. Unless you build and program computers you don’t need that old whatchamacallit. While I sometimes place fast and loose with my recycling habits, here’s where I cannot condone throwing out all that crap into the landfill. Besides there’s tons of places you can get rid of this junk.

Easiest thing to do is to type “recycle electronics” in a Google search and see where’s the best places to donate/recycle in your area. Here’s some places that I found in doing such a search.

Donate: Interconnection Takes any laptop under 5 years old, and will pay for the shipping.

Goodwill will take just about anything, including electronics and either sell or recycle them.

Recycle: Ecosquid instantly compares cash offers and recycling options for you from across the internet.

DigitalTips has a list of nationwide take-back and recycling programs. You just need to put in your zip code and it will show you your nearest options.

Greendisk will take all those cables and connectors and old mice and recycle all of it (including CDs, DVDs, VHS, and cassettes! )

Sell: Yeah, if you’re going to make any money on your old electronics it better be in good shape and not that old. So first check out Ecosquid.
