Today’s tip admittedly has a cheesy title but it’s late and the best my brain can do to capture the idea of re-purposing an antique baby’s cradle. I got the idea over the weekend when staying with two of my dearest friends, Katie & George. He is a Classic and she is an Organic and they are by far the craftiest, DIY couple I know. Although, I take that back. I have one other set of friends who are equally as crafty and not so coincidentally likely a Classic/Organic combo as well.

But, back to the baby cradle idea. This was a combo idea on Katie & George’s part. My apologies if I get the story a little bit wrong but here we go: Katie bought the baby cradle at a garage sale — or a consignment sale, I can’t remember but she is a master at these and gets things like Yves Saint Laurent baby coats for $5. She didn’t know what she would do with it but thought her two young girls might get some good use out of it. Her husband a Classic  — likely a Classic Structure — wasn’t going to let it sit around until they found a use for it. He came up with the idea to cut the cradle in half, put plywood on the bottom and back of the two halves, paint it and create two basket shelves. Brilliant.

He plans to use them for his daughters books but I saw endless possibilities. Perfect for towels rolled up in a bathroom — Classics/Funs would be the best at perfectly rolling up the towels. A catch all for hats gloves and scarves in a mud room for visual types who need to see what’s there to remember it — Smarts/Organics. A place to store all of your kids stuffed animals that multiply faster than rabbits. Frankly, magazine storage since magazine racks are always overstuffed since so few of us have the time to go through our magazines in a timely manner. And well maybe the possibilities are not endless because I just ran out of ideas but Classics are not the world’s best brainstormers — Organic Freedoms and Smart Freedoms are the best at that art.
