Simple Is What Simple Does — The Most Useful Apps

This week PixieIntern extraordinaire and Organic Freedom, Kristin Faldetta, has the skinny on the best apps. Y’know those little button thingies that hang out on your smart phone and make your life easier.

The best apps are the most simple. And today’s suggestions make our lives easier and keep us entertained. These apps can keep your kids quiet, keep you from being lost, and keep you in touch with mom, grandma and anyone else you actually want to see — all for super cheap and literally at your fingertips.

The Netflix app can entertain you on way to work or keep the kids quiet while your hands are full. It’s perfect for everyone in the family, has a great range of suggestions, and now has instant play movies and television shows you can access from your computer, iPad, iPod or Wii. The new streaming Netflix is great for Organic Freedoms and Smart Freedoms who tend to lose DVDs, especially if they’ve got a houseful of kids. Streaming means now DVDs to lose! Classics and Funs love Netflix because it’s so cheap! $7.99 a month for unlimited streaming. Add two bucks and you can get DVDs too. Smarts can benefit from this service too, but we have a feeling that they like to own DVDs, like trophies.

Google Maps can get you out of almost any jam imaginable! if you need to find anything from a store to a address, it pops right up. This app has to be the one I use most on my phone and that’s with good reason because it simply does anything.  Need directions while driving, this app finds your location and routes you to where ever you need to go without a sassy women telling you they are recalculating.  Walking around and feelings hungry? Type in something as simple as “food” and it will show you several places to eat in the area you are currently in. Non-planning types like Organic Freedoms, Smart Freedoms and Funs will find this app the most useful. But even the most organized Classic and Smart Structure and Organic Structure can use a little extra help every once in a while.

Skype is perfect for thrifty Funs, Classics and cash strapped Organics. With this simple app, you can video chat with anyone no matter where you are! This app is totally free and if you are calling other Skype users the calls are free too. You can make Skype calls to people on their iPhones, iPods, or computers. Video chat works with the iPod 4, and video enabled computers. If you’re calling someone who doesn’t have Skype the rates vary from 1.2 cents a minute to $8.99 monthly rates.
