Subscription Service Retail Is Here To Stay

The Marketers Dream

When it comes to marketing and advertising, I’m the dream client. I find all new ideas fascinating and worthy of my hard earned money. I was sad when Sky Mall bit the dust and ecstatic when Facebook added ads to my feed. Even things I’m not in the market for I’m going to click on, read about, flag, visit the website, consider, want and possibly buy. Frankly most Organics and Smarts are guilty of this. Big ideas and solutions for long term problems? Please, let us give you all our money. It’s the Classics and Funs among us, with their detail oriented brains, who read the fine print and weight the pros and cons before they pull the trigger. They’re the bargain hunters, thrilled at the chase and the spoils.

Subscription Retail

So yeah, this is a new idea and of course I love it. This is the second time I’ve written about the subject too! Read all about kids’ subscription services here. I bought into the Amazon subscription services right way. You save a bit of money and don’t have to remember to get your monthly vitamins or schlep to the drug store? Sign me up. Only problem was that I was not good at calculating the amount I would actually need a month so I would end up with too much. Same was true with the make your own meal subscription services. It’s a great idea for people who don’t like to meal plan, but a terrible idea for someone who doesn’t always feel like cooking. And food spoils. I can’t see Classics or Funs wasting a meal like that, but this Organic Freedom (and her Smart Freedom husband) will. And we feel guilty about it, so it’s just not the right idea for us.

A very attractive evil

In fact, big picture types like Organics and Smarts need to be very careful with retail services that have a recurring charge. It’s a detail thing that takes us twice as much energy to figure out. If we’ve got a lot going on, the little things can quickly fall between the cracks. Be careful of too good to be true things you read about on the Internet. Both my mom and I fell for that “amazing face creme” with a free trial for the cost of shipping which turned out to be a subscription service.

A Great Idea

Once you know the details and it’s something that doesn’t create another chore for you — meal kits I’m talking about you — then it kind of rocks. I love the clothing subscription retail services the best. It’s genius that you only have a few days to decide; perfect for deadline types like Funs, Organic Freedoms and Smart Freedom. I’m partial to Stitch Fix because I like assonance and they give me great fashion ideas. Last year a dress that didn’t work, still inspired me to find one elsewhere with a similar vibe.

It will take Classics a bit longer to get in on this trend, but that’s true of many Classics. Busy Classics will love things like this because it saves time and in terms of stylist subscriptions, keeps them from getting too dated in their fashion. Funs who need an injection of style will love this one too. As long as there’s a time or money saving element to a subscription services, then Classics and Funs will eventually and usually be on board.
