Think Beyond Wire Racks
This tip is from “Glam New Closet” In Style, January 2009. “Sometimes the most clever storage ideas weren’t designed for your closet. [Use a glass hurricane candle holder to store belts.]” At first glance, I just thought, “Wow, what a neat idea. You can see all of your belts. No more digging for a belt.” Then I pictured what would happen if I lifted up the glass to get to the bottom belt …
They’d either (a) all fall out or (b) if there was some mechanism holding them in place, I’d have to remove each belt to get to the one on the bottom, which would mean, I’d always wear the one on top or unbuckle it. I’m betting that whoever came up with this idea on In Style’s staff is either an Organic or Smart but didn’t really think through the annoyance of using it daily because they were so excited to SEE all of their beautiful belts.
I can’t in good conscience recommend this solution to any personality type, especially since our newly registered trademark is Life Should Be Easy® (that’s right, folks, we lawyered up and made that phrase ours … well at least for the next 10 years). I keep my belts tucked away in a drawer. It’s a bit too small for my taste but that’s my only complaint—lack of space. Putting belts in a drawer is a solution I’d recommend for Classics and Funs and if possible just make sure it’s big enough to hold everything you own. As for Organics & Smarts, honestly, ignore their advice to “Think Beyond Wire Racks” and actually go in the wire rack direction. Mount a tie-rack in your closet and hang belts from it.
