Wooden Toys & Other Great Gifts for Kids
I sometimes get annoyed when I see all the plastic offerings incessantly advertised on Nickelodeon and Disney. Also the refrain, “Can I have that? I want that! Can you get me that? Mom! Mom! Look! Can you get me that?!” So I’m always on the look out for cool toys that I won’t be throwing out in a year. Or rather, cool presents that might last more than a year, or, gasp perhaps even longer.
You can get that cool looking wooden ape at Greener Grass Design, plus some other cool design stuff. You can get it cheaper at The Future Perfect. Another great resource for fun and funky kids toys is at the museum store. We found some cool stuff at the New Museum, and also MOMA.
Then when I was at this other site, Old Hollywood Moxie looking for cool stuff for my hip sister-in-law I found they had bags of good plastic toys, like dinosaurs, bugs and animals. Definitely worth checking the site out regardless.
So yes I talk a big game, even had my 5 year old go through the Nova Natural catalog in the hopes that she might find something that she wants RIGHT NOW! And while she did eagerly go through the catalog with a pen, the toys that also appealed to me were very expensive and these whiners are also begging for American Girl. And last year? Husband and I pooled together our cash, hired a babysitter (or did we just drop them off at my sisters?) and took a late night visit through the Holland Tunnel to Santa’s Target workshop on the other side. We got everything those children wanted and more in under two hours and we didnt’ have to worry about shipping, just the $8 dollar toll (or is it $10?) There is always something to be said for convenience and ease. Always.
