Getting in shape and losing weight is tougher for some personality types than others. Today’s tip is about how to find the best way to motivate yourself no matter what your personality type. The 8 Colors of Fitness book by Suzanne Brue and its website helps you figure out who you are, how to get in shape and how to stay in shape.

I think of Suzanne as a sort of Pixie fitness guru. Our research is similar because we both use personality type theory. So, don’t let the different personality names confuse you. The only real difference between our advice is that extraversion and introversion play a much greater role in how you like to exercise than they do in home and life stuff.

Visit her website here to take her quiz and get an initial idea of how to change your tactics.  In it, Suzanne covers all personality types, but I think it would be especially helpful for Organics, Smarts and some Funs. Most exercise books out there today are written by and for Classics!

As an introverted Classic Freedom (Blue Harmony), it’s relatively easy for me to get into shape because working out makes me feel good both physically and mentally. Plus, I crave routine so once I get a routine that works well for me, I stick to it like glue until I hit a wall and realize that I need a new routine. For me, it’s all about knowing what the obstacles are and designing a routine around them. The cool thing is that the description of my type on 8 Colors of Fitness’ website is basically everything I just said about myself!

Katie is an introverted Organic Freedom (Saffron Harmony) and so her exercise routine needs to be fun, unexpected and ridiculously easy (read nearby.) This makes sense as the only times Katie has every successfully worked out is when the gym was less than 5 minutes away, or the bike was in her parent’s basement. SO, let’s see if she can now put together that exercise bike she bought four months ago!!
